![]() Mountain RacesInternational mountain running has developed to suit two different traditions of running in the mountains. One tradition practiced in Alpine countries is to run ‘uphill-only’ to a point on the mountain – maybe the summit, or more often a location which enjoys the facilities built for the use of skiers. The other tradition, developed especially in Britain and Italy involves starting in a mountain village or town, running to the top of the mountain and returning to the start. Known as fell running in England, this style of mountain running requires different skills to the uphill-only version, with spectacular descents often providing great spectator action. The Commonwealth Mountain and Ultra Distance Championships will include races in both disciplines. Races will start from Fitz Park in the centre of Keswick and ascend the slopes of Latrigg and Skiddaw, the hills overlooking the town.
There are great spectator locations - for more details click on Visitors.
