Quotes from team officials
Australia will be fielding teams in both the 100km and 24 hour events at the upcoming Commonwealth championships to be held in Keswick, Cumbria this coming September. We look forward to the challenge with much enthusiasm and we would be hopeful that these events will be included in the program of future Commonwealth Games and hopefully ultimately in the Olympics. These events are a great test of sporting ability and endurance and major Games are incomplete without them --- Ian Cornelius President-Australian Ultra Runners, Australia
The upcoming Commonwealth Championship Series is the way to the future that everyone has been waiting for, not only for our National Teams but for ultrarunning at large. This the fruit of many years of lobbying and planning by a few individuals. This championship will be the stepping stone to hopefully recognize our sport at the highest level and possibly becoming part of the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics where it belongs. --- Armand Leblanc, Team Manager, Canada
The Commonwealth Stage will raise the profile of endurance running at home and abroad. Combining the disciplines gives us all the opportunity to show and develop our chosen event in front of an appreciative audience... Ultra running will come out of the shadows and into the main athletic arena as has happened with Triathlon and the Olympics. --- John Muskett, Team Manager, New Zealand |
