Views on the Commonwealth Championships…
Nadeem Khan (NK): What were your thoughts on running in the Commonwealth Championships? Angela Mudge (AM): I wanted to support this new championship even though I had just raced an 8 day event 5 days before and would not be in peak condition. For us to be included in the actual champs all the top athletes need to support this event - luckily most did!
NK: How was this race different from your other international races? AM: The race had a much smaller field and support than a world trophy. This was a bonus in a way as everyone was more relaxed and friendly preceding the race.
NK: The one thing that you will remember about these Championships… AM: The great weather and setting of keswick and proabably watching the finish of the 24 hour race .
Get to know Angela…
NK: Most memorable athletic moment… AM: Winning Sierre Zinal in 2001 breaking the record and being the first women to run under 3 hours. An amazing atmosphere at the race and general love of the event makes it a special one.
NK: What is your typical training week? AM: Train every day running from 1 hour upwards, do 2 longer runs in the hills normally up to 3 hours and speed sessions twice weekly if I am not racing. I use my bike for a second session as a knee injury prevents me from running twice a day.
NK: If you were not a runner, you would be… AM: Good questions probably a cyclist or manic hill walker.
NK: Your biggest supporter in your running career… AM: It was my twiN sister who passed away in 2006.
NK: If you could train with a marathon celebrity, who would you pick? AM: I’d have to pick Ron Hill because he ran hill races in the past. I wouldn’t be interested in training with a road runner if they are not going to venture onto the trails or even hills.
